LAST PIECE I

In the late 1980’ I continued to do work with a strong conceptual starting point. I though myself right to the idea/concept of never making a work of art again.    This piece was to be the last work I’d ever make.

This particular work was shown with the laptop below on a table in the middle of a big gallery.  On the screen when the viewer came close read, “ No Art was made and life was about to begin......”

Needless to say, that idea didn’t hold too long.   What I did not realize, was there were actually more new as well “last pieces” to come.

If the artist is often on a quest to be free, could one go so far as to call themselves an artist and not make work?  Could you even free yourself from the idea from being or calling yourself anything?  I am just a person?
